The glass in our windows
Our sealed glass units are made by Cardinal Glass Industries, with a warm edge spacer, Low-E coatings and argon gas between the panes.
Warm edge spacer
Cardinal XL Edge® and Endur® spacers are stainless steel with a dual seal. The edge of the glass stays warmer, so you get less condensation in winter.
Low-E coatings
LoĒ-180 lets in more of the sun's warmth, a good fit for cold winters. LoDz-272 balances winter insulation with summer heat control. We'll help you choose.
Double or triple pane
Double-pane units suit most homes. Triple-pane adds insulation and cuts outside noise.

Frequently asked questions
The question we hear most after an installation is about condensation on the glass.
Are my new windows to blame for condensation?
It seems natural to blame the windows, but they do not cause condensation. Window condensation is an indication of excess humidity in your home. The glass simply provides a surface on which the moisture condenses visibly, because glass has the lowest temperature of any surface in a house.
Energy-efficient windows and weather-stripping keep cold air outside, and they also keep warm, moist air inside. Older windows were less efficient and let that moisture escape.
If excessive humidity is causing window condensation, it will also be causing other problems elsewhere in your home, sometimes hidden: peeling paint, rotting wood, buckling floors, deteriorating insulation, and mildew or moisture spots on walls and ceilings.
How can I reduce condensation?
Be proactive in stopping moisture from building up in your home:
- Tie back your curtains and open blinds to circulate air.
- Circulate the air inside your home. Open windows or doors if the temperature permits. If it is too cold, turn on your ceiling fans or furnace fan.
- Place a dehumidifier in the room where condensation occurs, as close to the window as possible.
- Remember that your laundry room can be a source of moisture.
- Repair sources of moisture such as cracks in walls and basement floors.
- Check your vents for blockages and remove them.
- Use your bathroom and kitchen fans every time you cook or shower, and keep them running for 15 to 20 minutes afterwards.
When should I be concerned?
Window condensation should only occur when there are extreme temperature differences between indoors and outdoors, and there should only be a fairly small amount of water on the glass. It appears on the inside of a window in winter and on the outside in summer.
If you find condensation between the two layers of glass in an insulated window, the airtight seal has probably failed and the glass unit will need to be replaced.
If there is too much moisture inside the home, you will see evidence in both cold and warm seasons: moisture spots on ceilings or walls, peeling paint, rotting wood, delaminating plywood, moisture on exterior walls, and fungus, mould or mildew growth. If you see these signs, contact a heating and cooling contractor to solve the problem.
